Who We Are
Difford Underwood Inc. is a boutique law firm with a primary focus on Family and PropertyLaw. Directors Carolyn Difford and Jaclyn Underwood have extensive experience in all areas of Family Law and Conveyancing.
We strive to put the needs of our client’s first, to offer a more collaborative approach to Family Law matters and to provide sound advice at an emotionally difficult time. It is our aim to provide our clients with a more personalised approach.
The parties involved in property transactions, including the Estates Agents, banks and other parties should feel open to liaising with us directly and on a regular basis to ensure that all respective interests are aligned and met.
In these tough economic times, tenants defaulting on rental payments becomes commonplace. Our Civil Litigation Department can assist with the eviction process.

Our Directors
Carolyn Jean Difford
Carolyn studied at the University of Natal where she obtained her B.Proc. degree. She completed her Articles of Clerkship at Abdo & Abdo Attorneys and was admitted as both an Attorney and a Conveyancer. Carolyn was later admitted as a Notary Public while at IC Clark Inc. and headed the Family Law Department at Drake Flemmer & Orsmond Inc. for a period of 24 years. Carolyn completed her Masters in Family Law in 2014 and held an Acting Judge position at the High Court of South Africa based in Bhisho during 2015.
Jaclyn Underwood
Jaclyn studied at Rhodes University in Grahamstown where she was awarded her Bachelor of Social Science and Bachelor of Laws degrees. She was admitted as an Attorney in 2009 and later as a Conveyancer. She completed her Articles of Clerkship in the Family Law Department at Drake Flemmer & Orsmond Inc. where she worked for 8 years. Jaclyn is passionate about Family and Matrimonial Law and has a special interest in Property Law. A keen entrepreneur she founded Difford Underwood Inc. with Carolyn Difford in 2016.
Our Team
Courtnay Chamberlain
Professional Assistant Attorney
Courtnay studied at the University of Stellenbosch where she obtained her BAccLLB Degree (Bachelor of Accounting and Bachelor of Laws) and LLM (Masters in Law), with a focus on Family Law. Courtnay began her articles with Difford Underwood Inc. in January 2019. Her primary focus has been domestic violence, maintenance and Children’s Court applications, but Courtnay has also gone on to learn civil litigation techniques and is accomplished in drafting both pleadings and advice on merits. Courtnay was admitted as an Attorney in March 2020.
